Dynamics NAV to Business Central

Your BC partner handles the ERP. We handle your ecommerce.

Migrating from Dynamics NAV to Business Central is the right time to sort your ecommerce integration too. Your old NAV connector will not survive the move. We build the replacement, timed to your go-live.

The gap most BC migrations leave open

Your Microsoft partner will not sort your ecommerce. That is not a criticism, it is just not their scope.

Business Central migration projects are complex enough without adding ecommerce to the scope. Your Microsoft partner will focus on getting your finance, inventory and operations running correctly on BC. The ecommerce channel, and the integration that connects it to your new ERP, is a separate specialism that typically falls outside their project boundary.

That leaves a gap. Your old Dynamics NAV ecommerce connector will not work with Business Central. Your existing ecommerce agency may not know BC well enough to build a new one. And your BC go-live date is fixed. We fill that gap: an agency that knows both ecommerce and Business Central, brought in early enough to make the transition clean.

What typically goes wrong

Why ecommerce gets left behind in ERP migrations.

Your NAV connector stops working

Most ecommerce connectors built for Dynamics NAV rely on NAV-specific APIs and data structures. When you move to Business Central, those connectors do not follow. You need a new integration built for BC from the ground up.

Your ecommerce agency does not know BC

Your existing ecommerce agency probably built the NAV connector and knows your store well. But Business Central's API, data model and entity structure is different enough that starting from scratch without BC expertise is a significant risk.

ERP go-live dates do not move

Business Central migration projects run to fixed timelines. If the ecommerce integration is not scoped and started early enough, it becomes a rushed bolt-on at the end, or gets deprioritised until after go-live.

You end up with two projects instead of one

The worst outcome: a temporary fix to keep trading after go-live, followed by a proper integration project six months later. Twice the disruption, twice the cost, twice the risk of something going wrong in between.

Built for Business Central from day one

Not a patched NAV connector. A proper BC integration.

Business Central has its own API, its own data model and its own way of handling orders, customers and pricing. An integration built for it properly handles all of that natively: orders posted to BC as sales transactions, inventory levels synced from BC locations in real time, B2B customer pricing pulled from BC during the web session, and financial data posted to the correct GL accounts automatically. We scope the integration against your specific BC configuration, not a generic template.

Timing is everything

The best time to upgrade your ecommerce is when everything else is already changing.

A Business Central migration gives you a natural forcing function. Budget is already allocated for the broader transformation. Your teams are already in change mode. And your existing ecommerce setup, which was built around NAV, probably has compromises baked in that you have been living with for years. Sorting the ecommerce integration properly during the migration costs far less than a standalone project six months later, and avoids the disruption of going through a major change twice.

FAQs

Common questions about ecommerce during a BC migration

No. The ERP migration from Dynamics NAV to Business Central is handled by your Microsoft partner. Our role is the ecommerce side: designing and building the integration between Business Central and your Magento 2 or Shopify store. We work alongside your BC partner, not instead of them.

As early as possible, ideally before your BC migration project kicks off properly. The integration needs to be scoped against your Business Central configuration, and some decisions made early in the ERP project, such as how orders, customers and pricing are structured in BC, will affect how the ecommerce integration is built. Getting us involved early avoids those decisions being made without ecommerce in mind.

Almost certainly not. Dynamics NAV and Business Central are architecturally different products. Connectors built for NAV use NAV-specific APIs, web services and data structures that do not map cleanly to Business Central. The safest assumption is that the existing connector needs to be replaced, not patched.

We build Business Central integrations for Magento 2 and Shopify. Both require a custom integration rather than an off-the-shelf connector, particularly for B2B businesses with complex pricing, customer accounts and multi-location inventory.

Orders, inventory levels, customer accounts, customer-specific pricing, product catalogue data and financial postings. The exact scope depends on how your Business Central instance is configured and what your ecommerce operation needs, which is why we review your BC setup before scoping anything.

A well-scoped integration typically takes six to ten weeks. Starting early means the integration can be ready and tested before your BC go-live date, rather than becoming a crisis project in the final weeks of the migration.

What our customers are saying

We're absolutely thrilled with the work Limely have done for us. Taking our website to the next level with Magento 2 was the best thing we ever did, we'll be continuing to work together for the foreseeable!

We are really pleased with our new website and the support and great service Limely have provided during the whole process. Not only are Limely excellent at what they do, but are a friendly, approachable team who put their clients' best interest at the forefront of their work.

The site itself looks great but the way that the whole team were prepared to go the extra mile, including helping me with the brilliantly-written content shows how much they care about their work. Thank-you to the whole team and I look forward to working with you again soon!

I was very pleased with the quality of the websites which Limely built for us. They took a complicated brief and created a bespoke solution which kept everything as simple as possible. The team are a pleasure to work with and I wouldn't hesitate in working with them again for future projects. An excellent web agency.

Our brief was a custom website, with lots of complicated functions along the way, and Limely have smashed it and built us an amazing website. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to have a new website created, their knowledge, experience and professionalism is the best.

What can I say... the guys at Limely are a dream to work with! Not only have they made our website something to be incredibly proud of but we have made some fab friends in them! Thank you so much for everything!
