Tile Merchant 2 Year Review

Back in 2021, Tile Merchant approached us in need of a brand new ecommerce website and a UX overhaul.

Tile Merchant approached Limely as they needed a UX overhaul, brand new website layout and mobile optimisation to strengthen their online storefront. Over the past three years, we’ve refined the online shopping experience for Tile Merchant’s customers, honed the user journey, built trust and improved organic traffic to the site. Without further ado, here’s exactly what we’ve done with our longstanding client to drive growth! Let’s dive in.

Tile Merchant Launched!

In March 2022, we launched the streamlined, responsive and beautiful new ecommerce website for Tile Merchant.

Prior to us working on the site, 73% of Tile Merchant’s customers visited the mobile site before completing a transaction on desktop; Highlighting an issue with the checkout process on mobile devices. As a result, we overhauled the mobile shopping experience to ensure seamless UX with a variety of features including;

  • Streamlined checkout process
  • Thumb-friendly navigation
  • Lightning-fast page speed

By implementing clear call to actions throughout the mobile-first site, reducing distractions and incorporating trust signals, we increased mobile revenue by 57% and have continued to refine the online shopping experience with a range of advanced features!

Bespoke Accessories Picker Tool

In April 2022, we launched a bespoke accessories picker tool to provide a memorable experience for customers!

Before we developed the accessories picker tool, many online customers were left confused with the amount of grout or edging they needed for the quantity of tiles they had in their basket. In order to eliminate this friction point that could prevent users from checking out, we designed and developed a custom feature that automatically works out how much grout, cement, sand or other accessory that a customer will need to fulfil their unique project.

Upgraded Shipping Feature

Upgrading shipping options to improve the customer experience.

In February 2023, we upgraded the online shipping feature for Tile Merchant’s online store. Previously, the website allowed users to select the ‘click & collect’ option regardless of whether or not the product was actually in stock at their Ballymount warehouse. In order to reduce customer frustration and improve the accuracy of the feature, our developers incorporated bespoke rules to ensure that only the products that are in stock in their warehouse are available for click & collect. Vastly improving the service that Tile Merchant offers to their customers.

Sample Feature Upgrade

In June 2022, we upgraded the sample feature to improve the user experience!

When we originally launched Tile Merchant’s website, the sample feature worked well and enabled customers to order up to 5 free cut-samples in just a few clicks, without having to enter payment information. However, we soon realised that once they’d added 5 samples, they weren’t able to switch one out if they found something different they preferred.

In order to enhance the user experience, we upgraded the feature to provide a functionality that allows users to switch out samples until they have their perfect, refined selection!

Dedicated Style & Advice Blog

Fast forward to May 2023 and we hit launch on a dedicated blog area!

We designed and developed a digital magazine within the Tile Merchant website to house their valuable style and advice articles. This area serves as a fantastic opportunity for the brand to build their organic traffic and boost customer loyalty by showcasing user-generated content (UGC) with a bespoke customer gallery.

The Style & Advice Blog is a fantastic content marketing tool for the brand as they can now create blog posts and articles that cater to their audience’s needs while incorporating target keywords that can help the website climb the search engine rankings. Not only that, it also enables the team to execute a robust internal linking strategy which in turn, helps search engine crawlers to make sense of the website’s content and rank it accordingly.

New Category & Product Page Designs

We redesigned Tile Merchant’s category and product pages to improve UX!

The new designs have enhanced the shopping experience for customers and help to drive conversions by showcasing more products on category pages and streamlining the product pages to encourage users to take action.

Previously within category pages, filtering options were positioned at the side of the product cards, taking up valuable real estate. Now, the design features four columns of products displayed across the full-width of the site so users can quickly find what they’re looking for, with filtering options at the top.

The product pages now include star ratings and more streamlined product options to ensure customers can easily choose the colour and quantity of tiles they require. Overall, the new designs are minimal, conversion optimisation and set to increase sales for Tile Merchant!

Overall, Tile Merchant have had a staggering 1,500,000+ website visits since the website launched back in 2022 and enjoyed an incredible 800,000 new users on the website. This increase in new users and sessions equates to a staggering revenue increase of over 1000%.
