When it comes to product imagery, there is nothing more powerful than seeing ‘what it really looks like’.

For anyone who’s been living under a rock for the past few years, Instagram is a photo-sharing app full of pretty sunsets, juiced up gym selfies and birdseye view images of kale salads. However, that’s not all it’s good for.

Studies carried out by customer review platform, Yotpo show that by simply adding Instagram integration to product pages, you can boost conversion rate by 24%….Whoa! Hang about… How?

Instagram Integration

What better way to showcase a product than encourage user generated content via one of the most powerful mediums known to man, imagery? Put yourself in the shoes of the consumer – we’ve all ordered something online and waited in anticipation for it to arrive only to be met with disappointment that it didn’t look exactly like the flashy product imagery used to convince you to part with your hard earned cash.

It’s the classic Big Mac theory – who’s ever had a Big Mac that doesn’t look like it’s been sat on? Certainly not me.

Yotpo conducted A/B testing on one of their client’s sites, which specifically looked at the difference in how many users made it to the checkout page when they added customer photos to the product page.

Naturally, consumer images, much like reviews instantly build trust with potential customers. It provides a validation that you just don’t get from professional photography.

Yotpo discovered that by simply adding customer’s Instagram pictures, which showcase a particular product in a ‘natural’ setting, more people made it to the checkout process. Increasing goals, conversions and ultimately, revenue!
