If it was any other year, we’d all be sat in our home town pubs right about now…

But no, it’s 2020 and Christmas as we know it is just a distant memory.

That said, it shouldn’t mean that Christmas 2020 should be less magical than any other year, and there are certain things you can do to get yourself into the Christmas spirit whilst abiding by the recent government guidelines and keeping you and your loved ones safe.

As you may already now, Chester happens to be in Tier 2 so some of the restrictions are a little laxer than other cities. But, it’s still important that we are avoiding spreading this annoying virus, even as we celebrate the arrival of good ol’ Saint Nick. So, without further ado, here is the Limely guide to a fun yet safe Christmas in Chester!

*Disclaimer* As you probably are aware, these rules are most likely to change so before you head out, be sure to check up on the recent updates to the guidelines by clicking here.

A Christmas tipple with your ‘substantial’ snack

Within the current restrictions, Chester’s pubs, bars and restaurants are only allowed to serve alcohol with a ‘substantial meal’. Where some restaurants are already sorted with a full menu, some of our favourite bars have been finding ways they too can abide by the new rules.

Places like Popcorn have started show-stopping side dishes and other delicious snacks so you and your household can enjoy some Christmas booze without having to buy a roast each time.

Pints alfresco

The rule of six for an outside setting still applies in Tier 2. So, if you’re getting a bit sick of spending so much time with the person you live with, you can meet up with 5 of your mates for a Christmas catch up in a pub garden or any other establishment that offers outdoor seating! (Don’t forget your substantial snack though). If you’re looking for a place to chew the fat whilst still abiding by the rules, here are just some of the places in Chester that offer safe outside seating!

A Christmas movie with a takeaway

Another rule of Chester’s Tier 2 lockdown is that all eateries and pubs should stop serving at 10pm, EXCEPT for delivery! With this exception, many of our favourite Chester hotspots, as well as some of the big chains, have adapted to make sure their food and drink is available for takeout or even better, delivery.

So, why don’t you shut yourself in from the cold and snuggle up to a great Christmas movie whilst you wait for your favourite restaurant to deliver your tea? What’s tickling your fancy?

A jaunt around a lit-up Chester

If you don’t want to stress about what you’re doing right and what you’re doing wrong, why don’t you take your lockdown partner and have a Christmassy walk around Chester! We’re very fortunate to live in such a beautiful city, especially at this time of year where the lights are up and the giant Christmas tree near the town hall is a’glowing. Grab yourself a take out coffee, take a walk and fill yourself with Christmas cheer.
